Professional Scout with Baltimore Orioles
In my nearly 20 years in professional baseball Brent Strom has distinguished himself as one of the most passionate, concerned and dedicated individuals I have met. Brent is a tireless worker with a never ending thirst to master the art of pitching. His breadth of knowledge is staggering, his spirit, enthusiasm and energy are infectious and his optimism is boundless.
During our four years together with the Montreal/Washington franchise it was evident to me in a very short time that Brent possessed a true teacher persona; he loved to share his knowledge and took great pride and joy in the achievement of others. His efforts were endless with an impressive series of resources to aide his craft. Brent treated each pitcher in the organization as if they were children of his own. He placed an unyielding personal investment in each in an effort to assist in maximizing their abilities.
In short, Brent is one of the most impressive coaches I have worked with; I can think of no one more preeminently qualified for his latest endeavor. One can expect nothing less than selfless dedication from Bent in an effort to aide in the improvement or refinement of each student. More simply put, Brent is a perfect fit to assist young pitchers efforts to returning to professional baseball.
I really don't now where to start. From the first time I met Brent in Venezuela (1991) to the first time I had him as a pitching coach (1992) I knew he was someone special.
I can honestly say that outside of my father and my college coach Brent had the biggest impact on my career.
He not only showed me the split finger pitch, which basically got me to the big leagues. If you ask any hitter about Dave Veres I guarantee you I will be known for the splitty.
He helped me turn an average minor leaguer to a pretty good Big Leaguer. Nearly 10 years with a 3.4 E.R.A and almost 100 saves with over 600 games pitched.
Outside of teaching me the splitty I knew if I had a problem or a question and went to Brent he gave it to you straight, never one to sugar coat it.
I also knew that he was one of the few that actually stood up for his players.I know every player that has played for Brent feels the same.
I cannot express enough the impact that Brent had on my career and my personal life, he truly has made me a better pitcher and person. I know that anyone would benefit from having Brent work with them.
Brent Strom is one of the most passionate pitching coaches I have encountered in my career. His love for teaching along with his great understanding of the biomechanics of pitching helped accelerate my career.
My stuff improved and I became a better overall pitcher from my experience with Brent Strom as my pitching coach.
I would recommend his teaching to anyone interested in becoming a better pitcher from youth, amateur or professional baseball.
Brent Strom was the reason I made it to the Big Leagues, and the reason I had success.
He completely changed my pitching motion and added pitches that best suited my new way to pitch.
Brent has a way of seeing things that others can't. This is one of the many reasons that there are pitchers in the Big Leagues that have worked with Brent.
I would stand behind Brent in his pitching methods, because I'm proof.
